Default popped lower control arm, car won't go

The lower control arm (diver side) ball joint popped out, now the car won't drive. Am I looking at damaged transmission/axle or just the control arm?

The car now has no power to the axles, the Left front lower control arm ball joint popped loose, the car was driven about six miles (w/ abundant grinding noise) the car was backed up a hill to a parking spot and now does not move (clicking noise in first, silent in reverse).

in addition to the control arm, should I expect damage to the axle +/- transmission??

1998 A5 1.8L quattro manual transmission. A freind is offering the car to me for free, I'm just looking into what I might be facing.

Thanks,

Probably destroyed the CV joint.

Thanks - Puts me right on the edge. Transmissions scare me. Working outward (CV & CA) may be doable. Is the CV joint the weak link, does it fail before damage to transmission parts?

Depends on what happened. Might have also pulled the flange out of the trans. Neither one is a big deal.
