Default air flow meter problem

I am new to this forum and I have just picked up a 2000 a8 2.8 and have been giving it the once over and I found the wires to my air flow meter had been cut and replaced and 4 of the wires go into the 4 pin plug with a black wire left?
I thought 2000 on was 5 pin and if so has the last owner bought the wrong one and diy it him self?
all help welcome

MAF's need to be matched to specific engine codes...your engine should be an "AKB". The correct MAF should be part # 077 133 471 G (or GX, re-manufactured).

There should be at least 5 wires...the only black wire that shows in wiring diagrams is actually a 6th wire which is a coax connection (going to ground) to the green wire...green wire is connection #5 on the MAF.

Sorry...my mistake. I didn't read thoroughly enough...I was looking at info for a 2000 USA model A8 (4.2 engine).

I don't even have a wiring diagram for your model...only USA models which only came with 4.2 engines.

ETKA parts catalog says that your MAF should be 078 133 471 E (or EX = re-manufactured).

If you stated the part # correctly (ending in "371 E"), I can't even find a reference to that number anywhere.
