So heres the deal, i bought my audi back in october, a red A3 basically a base model. ive got the 2.0 and FWD. I love the car except for one thing... i have the base model steering wheel with no multi functions or paddles. in reality i dont care about the multifunctions as i have tried them out and there hopeless in my opinion. But i do however want the paddles. I have found a steering wheel at my local junkyard with paddles and controld for dirt cheap compared to what i see online. My question is, do i have to hook up the multi function? is it just plug and play? my biggest issue is every wheel swap thread i see is from the multi function to the multi function with paddles, not base to all out. If anyone can help me out, it would be great, or point me in the direction of an already done thread.

Here's a link to a DIY for a 2009--yours should be similar. You'll have a different steering controller--I don't know if you'll need a different controller or not. You'll need access to a VAG-COM (now VCDS) to update the controller configuration. It will also tell you if your controller can be connected to a MFSW with paddles. Also you will need the correct airbag for your steering wheel and the matching wire harness.
