I've asked elsewhere and will report back. I doubt that there are clips because there was room on that diagram for more info if it was needed.

I have come across a situation before where a part we knew existed (the front shock tower stress bar) did not show up as a numbered part on a diagram. But eventually we found that is was listed in the parts list associated with the diagram, just not shown on the diagram (probably because it was jam packed already):

I have had the missing parts syndrome on my type 85 Quattro before, but that time the part was completely missing from both the diagram and the list.
