Default Floor Mat Backing crumbling apart

My D2 A8 in my signature has had a bad case of the black backing on the standard floor mats crumbling and making abrasive-looking particles underneath the mats. Today, while cleaning up my B5 I noticed that they are now doing the same thing. Is this something they all do? Too much hot sun or big feet in the car?
Sure makes me appreciate the molded, rubber-like mats in the Volvo that fit perfectly without moving and still look good after 24 years!
Anybody here ever use the Weathertech or something similar in their Audi? I bet they don't make one for the D2.

Unfortunately WeatherTech does not make the nice molded floor mats for the D2.

I live in the Plains of the US and winter floor mats are a must. I purchased a set of four Goodyear/Kraco last September at Target and they have preformed excellent. They stayed in place and kept the snow, salt, sand and water where it should be, with-in the mat. Plus they only cost $23.00 instead of $100.00 for a comparable WeatherTech version.

Good luck.

Default WeatherTech does not have D2 mats

It has been raining almost everyday since I picked up new S8 two weeks ago so I ordered some weathertech mats to keep my new toy from getting soggy.

There laser measured TV commercials had me sold.

The mats show up and don't fit AT ALL.

When I called Weathertech to return the mats (which I did), I asked them how the fit was so bad since they supposedly laser measured them.

The answer "we don't have a mat for your car, we sent you a standard mat"

Huh?!

I believe a regular poster on that other quattro...world A8 forum had good luck using D3 winter mats...not perfect, but very good. D2 winter mats are NLA.

GAP shows them available. $52.95 for fronts, $38.19 for rears. I guess they could have them listed but not have them in stock anymore though. Worth a shot. They were/are a perfect fit. Actually, once I put them in my car I never took them out. If I didn't have black carpets, I'd probably remove after each winter, but they look so good with black they just stay put.
