I've changed them on a couple of those cars, and they took a good hard whack to seat them
I had ot give them a good pound with the palm of my hand to get them fully seated.
You may have a different kind, though, as I thought mine were all plastic, no metal. Not sure though.
I think mine were made in China, so, I figured that's 'just how they fit'...

Great engine! It ran 0-60 in 6.1. Nice growl, came with very aggresive goodyears I burned thru in 14k miles!
Great engine, great tires, everthing in between was a mature womens car! I have never done a mod, never been demanding on any car but that thing put me to sleep! And I came out of an S-class because I wanted somting smaller and more fun!
The recirculating ball steering is very nice, but very non reponsive. The springs and shocks were too soft. I did not want to lower it, nor kill the ride. There was no "sport" suspension from the factory. I keep my cars to spec.
Image: I noticed I was about the only male driving it. Seemed the avg age was a 60 year old women.
Mistake, and two years later I sold it. Got a "slower" allroad with 6speed but its 10x more fun to drive. Even the "tip" (loaners) are fun to drive! 0-60 is very overrated!
After 5 mercedes I doubt I will go back. The care are no longer special in my opinion!
Im not saying they are bad cars by any means, but I drive alot and while the car was comfortable, safe and reliable, it was dangerous! Why? It was boring! ANd a few times I nearly fell asleep driving it! Never with My Audi!
I felt if I continued to drive it I would grow man-***** or go sleepy time into a ditch!

There was a sport package with firmer suspension, and of course, the E55. Nevertheless,
I concur with your opinion of the car - I had a '99 and would say the same. I also had a '99 A6 avant at the time, and it was far more 'involving' to drive even if it was the slowest accelerating car I've ever owned (2.8L V6)
The allroad needs the H-sport sway bars. Try those, and you will be in for a treat. Very 'minimal' modification, very simple, but universally heralded as THE must-have improvement for that car.

Have to say that the C6 is much more masculine than it's predecessor also. (Not including the RS6) but the new E Class is almost perfect until they screwed up the rear. Seems to be a common trend with German cars of late. The 5,6,7 series all follow the same trend.

I like how they copied the windows of the TT, but they still need to fix that rear end.
I like 3/4 of the exterior design and I like the direction that Mercedes is going with their cars, but I hardly think it blows the A6 away. And for a mid-range car the interior is far too compact. It was funny watching four adults squeezing into the new E at the L.A. Auto Show. At least the seats are indented for people's knees...

i will agree the c6 blows the W210 out of the water stock for stock. it's down right evil!
