Default Updated Q7 Sunroof Fix

I am in the process of searching for a Q7 for my family. We are selling our A4 this weekend.

I know there are some big issues with the 07 Q7 Sunroof drains etc. My question for the experts is, when did Audi upgrade the sunroof drain? I have heard 2010, but wondered if it was before then.

Also, any word on a reliable/inexpensive extended warranty option?

Thanks

I've had all 4 drains replaced on my 2009. My dealer said MY2010 was the update on the drains. Q7 was in the shop for 7 days and haven't had a problem since. This was about 3 weeks ago.

It's ridiculous how much water leaked into the car after a heavy rain. Can't believe top of the line Audi vehicles have had this problem effecting so many owners.

Useful to know, thanks.

Was the initial leakage into the main cabin or in boot/luggage area near the subwoofer?

Cheers

Initial leak in mine was the front passenger side. That was shortly after I purchased it last year and had that drain replaced under factory warranty. Then last month, same problem occured drivers side and in the trunk. Water was soaking through the headliner near the speakers in the trunk. Dealer confirmed the amp was not damaged. Subwoofer area was dry. Had to pay the $87 CPO deductible.

My amp quit working and make popping sounds in the speakers. A day later it dried out and worked fine. I was in denial since mine was an 2008 and I thought it only was a 2007 problem. Then it rained again and killed it. I took pictures of the water on the fuse box in the back. Sent them to my service advisor and he got me in and explained the problem. He told me that the drains were just press fit onto the sunroof frame and after time they pop off, sometimes all the way off and sometimes just a little. They took the headliner down (got it dirty, which I had to go back to get cleaned, and stretched out my sunshade which they replaced). They claimed they put the new drain hose on and secured them with a clamp. I got the impression that the clamp was something that they do at the dealership and not an audi endorsed repair. Either way, it's been about 8 months and no leaks.
