Sorry forgot the pictures, new at this forum.

Have anyone an answer on what is the cause to the cam chain wear on the cam cover on this 2003 passat 1.8t with 120000+ miles on it as shown in pictures? There is even a small wear on the cylinderhead to!

No strange sound at startup or idle only an oil leak through the cam cover and p0012. The cam chain tensioner sliding pads are slightly worn.

It was the oil leak that put my notice to the cam chain wear on the cam cover.
I have red quite a few articles on different forums on the matter of the cam chain tensioner and I can not find out that any malfunction of the tensioner could cause the cam cover wear.
Only thing I could think of is that the cam chain it self is worn out and thus too long.

Grateful for some answers that my local dealer don’t now of ore want tell me.

I would suspect the tensioner has gone bad and is letting the chain hit the cover at a time thats not idle. To be safe replace the both the chain and tensioner.
