Engine Blocks cracking?
Hello Guys,
I am looking at buying an Audi S4 2004 4.2 V8.
I have been told by a few people to avoid as the Engine Blocks crack, I have tried doing some research but can't find much on this, so I was looking for some advice on this?
Also is there anything else obvious to look for?
The mileage may range from 60-90k.
I've been told to go for the 2.7 Twin Turbo instead, but after previous experiences I want to avoid Turbos and want the V8 soundtrack
Cheers!

I've NEVER heard of this happening with a 4.2 V8 in the D2 A8. However the plastic pipe connecting the oil cooler to the side of the engine block will ALWAYS deteriorate and leak coolant sooner or later. It is a slight PITA to replace, but there is a guy (Bufkin??) who sells an aluminum replacement pipe for like $25 with better seals. Then, it will last forever.
I don't know if the 4.2 in the S4 is dramatically different, but I doubt it.
