Troubleshooting some knocking under my VC, was thinking bad CCT, only to discover that my 02 1.8t motor has some really bad scoring and metal transfer on the intake cam+cap+head under cap #1. Looks like it got starved for some reason. No sludge. Found some metal shavings in the oil pickup screen, probably parts of aforementioned head as it started to come apart. Boo.

So head is shot and whole motor may be suspect. Are there any reputable engine rebuilders up in our neck of the woods? For that matter, are there any reputable shops on the west coast? Seems like a lot of people do this work in the steel belt, having trouble finding the same talent out here.
