Tire Thickness - question for those familiar with tires
Was about to go out of town with my allroad.
Then, I saw a thin piece of metal penetrate my allroad rear tire by around 1/4 - 3/8 of an inch. It went in the thicker level of the tire thread.
I was not sure if it penetrated the tire to the core, so I left the allroad at home and brought my S5 for the out-of-town trip.
My question is - how thick are the tires? Should I be worried that a thin sharp piece of metal penetrated my tires by about 1/4 - 5/8 of an inch?

That sounds like some serious penetration...but you'll know soon enough whether it caused damage (leak).
I've had a nail go into the tread block and not cause any problems when removed.

Thanks, I'll be home in a few days and see if it has lost some air. If not, 1/4 inch slice into the tire still looks pretty deep. Is there a rubber glue for that?

Ok, so I left the allroad in my garage for about 8 days, and took the tire pressure again. The 1/4 - 3/8 puncture did not cause any puncture and the air pressure remains the same.
I went to Discount Tires and asked them for an opinion. And they said, well - as long as it did not puncture your tires, it's ok. Tires are made to take some tear and shallow punctures.
I'll still probably put some rubber cement on it.
