I drive a 1994 100 and my wife drives an 04 A4, while her parents both have 6s. I get into their cars and feel like I'm driving go-carts. I will take the ride of the 100 any day. 207miles and runs like a charm...well aside from my current ignition/starter issue, but I hope to have that resolved soon.

Default 1991 Audi 100

I just this week donated it (95,104 miles)to KQED in San Francisco.
The brakes seized and the cost to replace the release mechanism was over $1300 so I decided I'd had enough of rebuilding it. Too bad though because it was in good shape. Artic white paint in great shape, no body damage ever.
Radio needed a new on/off volume switch. Clean headliner was drooping in a few places.Leather interior in almost new shape and according to my wife (her car)the best seats ever in a car. Even better than our "04 A6 CVT. 4 almost new tires.
Think it goes to auction somewhere. Excellent engine.
If I had to pay for all the parts replaced during the 3 year warranty (unlike the A6) , I'd be in the poor house.

My first Audi was a 96 5000. Now I'm driving a nice 92 100CS. Got it for $500, already spent about $4k in it just to make sure it won't give me problems in the near future or I'll have problems find parts.

Add to it about $2k in stereo equipments (the only thing I don't like from *any* manufacture) and I got myself a 92 Audi 100 with $6k invested in it.

Stupid? No for me, as I love the car.

Yes I could buy a nice POS 2006/2007 for that money, but it wouldn't be an Audi ...

Any one want to add to this tread and count how many Audis are out there?

[]'s,
Al

.................

Well I ve gone thru 1985/5000 [two of them], 1991 2.2l, inline engine, two of them, and one 1987-400cs/1.8l inline

By 1989 Audi cleaned its act well and the transmission went electronic in 91. earlier lots of problms with 5000 series..

I ve boughttwo with 108 k miles for $2000, and second three yrs ago for $1200..same miles.
Now with 168 k...I just sold it...will always miss the gages...on the middle of the dash, although that diagnostics.display always succumbed to the temp...and went nuts..

I still have following parts if some one will acre to buy.

TO raer lights..L and R], thermostat, front , outer axle boot-one.[its split...so no need for dis assy]
Oil filters [purolator], some headlight bulbs....and front white/clear side marker lights[ after market]...and also a service manual CD/dvd for many years coverage.
Anyone wants some : ssty at hotmail.com

If were near SF, [Im near Wash DC]would ve taken 1991 Audi 100 under 100k anytime..

Those with brake issues, or other elec issues can write to me : [ssty at hotmail.com], I can try.
My son with A$/1.8l turbo all wheel stick...feels very good after he has freshly spent..about 300 or so.

But then after 3 months he has a little shock again...and the process has contd. He bt for $3500/95 k miles, ve spent since $3000.

He needed a 4WD for Buffalo weather...after he skidded in BMW 91..going early to Hosp[he is a doc].

The stupedest thin is to put a fricking antenna amplifier...for a stuby sitting like a ****ty shark on the roof...and the amplifier fails..costs $80.
The 1991 had a F windshiled built in antenna..not, never nana evr an issue of any crap going up or down or sticking or stolen...my son works for Honda in OH...designs that segment of the car...so I ask him why Honda will not do 'dat'...?
He explains...'I got to watch for every penny'...still Honda wants to consider that Audi idea NOW...in the rear w shield which already has the defogger..an elect item...and preferred also away from front engine emi[interference].

I am a Mech Engr...and will never find the handling of any FWD to come close to an in-line FWD...expensive but heck of dynamic control on sharp turns.
And the room to wkg around the engine....could 2 batteries there...why they chose rear seat...?..those Germans..!!

Wish could do something about very poor fuel economy...never got more than 23 mpg on hwy...barely 1 in the city...but CIS is good in acceleration not economy that u get in EFI.

Now with SAAB, auto 2.0L turbo I get 32 mpg...hwy and 21 city

Audi's body then had 6/7 layers of body protection..no jap C maker ever can come close or afford to do that.
Phosphatized, two primers, two paints..and one clear coat...the body could not rust in 30 yrs...to which Japs will say " Damn Germans..stupid 'overkill' "...which is correct to a good extent.

regards

Default 89 100q

Im here in TX and 4 years ago bought an 89 100 Quattro for $1500 and put about $1k in various things into it before the rack and front end went bad and i couldnt keep up with it, its in the back yard collecting grass and waiting for me and buddy to maybe strip it out and do our best to mod the hell out of it! Im looking at purchasing a 2000-2003 a6 or a8 with the v8 in the meantime, but shes still in the back of my mind waiting on her time!

(3rd gear synchro gone, interior trashed, minor wiring issues) But will start right up even after sitting a year!

In some ways the car is dated. Big and heavy, could get better fuel mileage, slow out of the hole. Creature comforts are not what they are in other cars.

Stupid for spending the money to fix it up...maybe but if you like the car why not. as you said you could get some pos from 02/07 for that money. It would not have the feel of the Audi.

Keeping a car for the long haul is often cheaper then buying new or newer every few years.

I bought a 94 100CS Wagon a few years ago with 60k original it know has around 100k. I just put $2700 into it to keep it going for a few more years. Heater core, fan, servo's for the heater, timing belt, water pump, etc. A friend watching me spend the money on it was wondering why I spent all that when the car is worth about what I just put in to it. Well I don't have car payments, my insurance is cheap, I like the car but it could get better fuel mileage. It is comfy out on the open road and it is reliable In the few years that we have owned the car this is really the only thing we have done to it. I don't care if you buy the newest thing off the lot buy the time you get to the milage I have on this car you will probably spend the same amount for maintenance I just did unless you have some sort of service plan to 100k miles. But you would still be paying for it in the purchase price and payments.

I have both the 94 100CS Wagon and a 01 B5 S4 Avant. The 100 was my daily driver up until recently (another subject, still have it just in another state) the S4 is for nice days. The 100 is great out on the road gobbling up chunks of interstate and not getting fatigued, it just does not have the get up and go of the S4. The S4 I need to be careful when I push on the accelerator I have caught myself approaching triple digits in the wrong area, I have to keep myself on a leash at all times when driving the S4 other wise I would be getting pulled over quite frequently. It is very nimble and a blast to drive on the twisty roads and it is great knowing you can get around any slow poke out there. The 100 takes more patience to drive, keeps me out of trouble and is not as fun to toss around on the twisty roads.

If I had to get down to one car...not sure what it would be. In some ways the S4 is to nice for me for a daily driver, mine is unmolested bone stock and has 85k original miles and for what I do for recreation it would be hard on the car. The 100 is nice take it any where and not worry about door dings, dirt, gravel roads, eating in the car, etc; but I would like the authority to get around slow pokes if needed. Maybe a late model Allroad with the 2.7T But I think I would drive the wheels off the 100 first before getting an Allroad

Cheers

I have a 1992 100 S. my parents bought it new when my mom was pregnant with me. I got it as a 16th bday present. Long story short, most reliable car ever! Has 350,000 miles on it and the engine has never even been touched. Besides timing belts and tune ups. Gets an average of 28mpg and Runs great. Still on the original clutch!! Yes the original one!! Can't make it slip if I try!! I absolutely love her. I'm a mechanic and plan on fully rebuilding the engine at 500,000. I don't plan on ever having another daily driver. This car is part of my family and I couldn't see getting rid of it.

Hey, I'm also in Oly. I love the elegant simplicity of a C4 wagon, with its rock solid reliable AWD system and low drama dependability. These are sadly overlooked gems.
