MAF sensor wire missing, in the tube? PIC
so i took out my MAF sensor and it has a little wire wrapped around the sensor like this picture http://pics.tdiclub.com/members/tong...sidebyside.jpg
you can see the wire on the top pic, its missing from my sensor, so i assume is been sucked in the hose,
my car has been stalling when it gets hot at stops signs or red lights, would it be because the wire is sucked in or its missing or where the hell has it been sucked into? is this dangerous?
any help would be grateful

Hi.
I've just come across your problem whilst doing a search on Google. I don't have an Audi, however my PT Cruiser has a 2.2 CRD Merc engine and is having similar problems. The garage is baffled as all diagnostics are fine when the engine is cool. The absence of the wire on your MAF sensor is clearly a problem on yours. Mine has a similar MAF sensor, so I'll be taking it off to check / clean later on. I'm no expert, but I'd almost certainly say that the absence of the wire is the reason for your car stalling. In my case, it stalls when up to operating temperature. It's then hard to start (Like there's no fuel pressure) and stalls several times. I can only get it going after ticking over for a while then carefully driving off. The garage has told me they suspect the fuel pump and I'd need to take it to a diesel specialist. Someone with knowledge of diesels, however, has informed me that it won't be the pump as it wouldn't intermittently fail. They're convinced it's just the MAF sensor needing cleaning (or it could be faulty in a similar way to yours).
Hopefully, in your case, the wire is that small that it's simply gone through the system without causing any problems. I'd certainly get a replacement MAF sensor asap if I was you.
I hope this helps. As I say, I'm no expert, I'm learning myself as my car develops problems, however the absence of the wire on yours is most certainly the reason for it stalling when warm. If not. It will still need replacing anyway.

hey thanks for the reply,,,
my car is now fixed, after so many trials and errors, i finally figured out it was the RPM sensor or some call it Impulse Sender, for those with a similar issue, hope this helps.
its an easy $70 DIYS fix, but it cost me much more as the mechanic pretty much charged me $170 for the sensor and another 100 to find out the issue and another $100 to replace it,,, i hate mechanics, they rip you off just about all the time,,,mind you this was a family friend
