Coolant Temp Sensor

Coolant Temp Sensor
Hi all,
Looks like my first post will be regarding an issue with my TT.
My temperature gauge wildly over reads, and I've checked it with the 49C trick to make sure this is the case.
My question is, if the coolant temp sensor is faulty, would I still be getting correct readings using the 49C trick?
Thanks

Yeah, sorry I don't have the answer to this but would love to know the outcome.. i also use the 49c to check and a few other things as well, nice hidden feature.

I have a similar issue on my 01 tt quattro where the temp gauge is reading high. with the 49C trick, i can see that the dash cluster is about 20 too high. Usually if the temp on the gauge is more than 10 degrees different than your heater control readout then it's a gauge problem, but then usually the fuel gauge reads too high as well (in my experience anyways). You can always run the car with the coolant reserve open and use a thermometer in there to see if that agrees with the gauges.

There are known problems with the clusters on TTs. The fuel and temp gauges read wrong usually high. It's due to the needle moving on the shaft.
Check the cluster with a VAG.com for accuracy before you start swapping stuff.
