Acura will complete its lineup refresh with a new model called the TLX, which will debut at the Detroit Auto Show in January.


While technically a concept, keeping true to Acura tradition, it will very closely resemble the production car that will arrive shortly after. The new TLX will replace not only the TL, but also the TSX, which will officially end production in 2014.

“This all-new Acura TLX is the perfect blend of style and muscle with its elegant, well-proportioned exterior that cloaks the true sport sedan chassis and powertrain beneath,” said Mike Accavitti, senior vice president, American Honda Motor, Co., Inc. “The sporty characteristics that customers found appealing in the TSX are even more pronounced in this aggressive new TLX.”



Acura says the move to combine the TL and TSX models into a single nameplate is designed to “clarify is sedan lineup,” with a clear hierarchy of models – the compact ILX, mid-size TLX and flagship RLX.

The 2015 TLX will be offered with two new direct-injection engines, which Acura says will be both “high-performance and highly fuel-efficient.” Both will come mated to an all-new advanced transmission – likely either a new CVT or the new 7-speed dual-clutch unit that debuted in the new RLX. The TLX will be available as both a two-wheel drive and all-wheel drive.

In addition, Acura says the TLX will feature more emotional styling and better sports sedan proportions in addition to numerous signature brand technologies.

Designed at the company’s Los Angeles Design Studio the car is being developed and will be produced in North America at Honda’s Marysville, Ohio plant
