Transmission Compatibility...???
Hey there peeps....
Need some help here.
I need to know if a transmission of a 1993 90 2.8 V6 Manual 5spd NON-Q will fit my 1992 100CS 2.8 V6 Manual 5spd. NON-Q
They vin numbers on the 2 90's I was told have the transmission available are
WAUDJ58C1PA226589
WAUDJ58C4PA155338
I tried to decode the vin but DOES NOT state if they are Q or NON-Q.
Any guru out there that can ID if these vins belong to a Q or a NON-Q model?
I have not visually seen them, that is why I ask, and it is a long trip to go "see" them.
Also, IF, they are NON-Q, will this transmission fit my 92' 2.8 V6 100CS
Thanks.

Well, went ahead and checked my car, and sticker says transmission code "CAC"
Now, how to find out if the ones with the vins I posted are compatible....I have no wwy of knowing as they are not within my reach......
Any other way to find out?
Will the dealer provide me.with the transmission code if I provide them the vin numbers?
Thanks.

According to wrecking yards they are interchangeable between 100 and 90. You look for a transmission for a 92 100 5 speed m/t it shows almost only audi 90's out there with a transmission compatible. 100s were not common in 2wd form w/ manual trans/

Well, the first vin matched my transmission code, and got it.
Now, is this a straight up swap? Anything different on the exterior I sbold be aware of before starting the sewp?
Thanks.

You have to take what junkyards say with a boulder-sized grain of salt. They want to get rid of stuff!. The innards of the two transmissions are the same, but the positioning of the front-drive flanges (where the two half-axles attach) may well be different, because of the slight difference of the position of the engine-transmission relative to the front wheels in the two cars. I learned this the hard way when I got a quattro manual out of an Audi 90 to swap into my 92 100CS. Check the code for the Front Drive manual you want to swap in. If it is not CAC (or the Euro equivalent) it will not fit for the reason above.

I am not talking about the flanges themselves, but the position of the flanges. I cannot see how this can be a simple swap, as you suggest Prospeeder. . The front axle drive is not the right distance from the edge of the bellhousing. I would welcome more details, if I am wrong.

Forgot to respond to this. But 2.8 12v 100 and 90 transmissions are identical. and mounted the same. Why do u think the 100s have the engine set so far back. Its the same trans. you will be fine getting a 90 trans to put in your 100. Now older 5 cylinder stuff, no 90 and 100 dont interchange.
