Key not releasing in ignition

Key not releasing in ignition
I was wondering if anyone else has this problem. Sometimes when i pull my key out of the ignition the release does not click to say the key is out and it will not let me lock my car with the fob. I believe it just might be dirty. If it is dirty what should I use to clean it? Electrical contact cleaner? Lubricant? Thanks for reading. Oh and i have a 99 pre-facelift.

The only thing to use when lubricating key barrels is carbon graphite.
Any form of wet lubricant (oil, silicone, etc) will gum up the graphite already prsent and make things worse.
If you have a compressor, try blowing all the crap out with a blow gun, or otherwise you should be able to get a spray can of air only at an electrical type shop.
Lube it back up with graphite (auto or hardware - get one with a nozzle extension tube) - use sparingly, as the stuff goes everywhere!
Take the key in and out and turn the barrel several times and see if operation improves.
