Default This discussion needs something; say, how many miles on your 12V?

My '96 12V is hanging in well at 227,000 miles- doesn't leak, doesn't burn oil, and pulls a couple of gears to 6,200 RPM getting on the freeway every morning. Always starts, runs smooth and quiet, and made 30 MPG at a steady 70 earlier this year. Not a lot more that I can ask for! How are your 12-valves doing on the road, and how many miles?

my car is almost at 240k. the engine has about 50k less, runs strong, my MPG is not as good as yours unfortunately (but i also drive like a maniac periodically) no leaks at the moment, all the gaskets were replaced within last 3 years. I do have a little residue around the front of the valve covers, but nothing major.

I can tell you that it doesn't get 30 MPG every day! Usually around 24 when I check it, the 30 MPG run was a non-stop San Diego to Orange County drive with cruise on. It's an early '96 A4, sport springs, fresh paint and upholstery, de-badged except for the 4-rings. I've got to say that the power train is very reliable, the only recent care this car needed was to replace broken plastic window clips.

Hey everyone! I've been on all the forums, but for some reason haven't registered here before now; this is my first post.

My 1995 90 quattro has 228,000 miles on her original engine, with absolutely no serious work done (yet).

I've only had her since 213,000, but in that time she has started up immediately every time, ran smooth and quiet, pulled strong, and been fairly economical. I haven't had the ***** to take her past 5000 RPM (again, yet), but I am confident she could go to the red line.

Or I was. Technically, I will never find out if she could've in that state because I just dropped her off yesterday to have the engine rebuilt. I'm still second-guessing that decision, because there was absolutely nothing wrong with her (except an occasional sticky lifter that could always be chased away with a good 5000 RPM thrashing lol) but I am in my last semester of college, and my school has an automotive program that does all work for free, at just the cost of parts. So while I wanted quite badly to see how far I could take it without serious work (I'd wager over 300k, based on how it was running), I reasoned that I should take advantage of the free rebuild while I have it available to me. They are doing all gaskets and seals minimum. Probably all springs and bearings too, along with anything else it needs. Fingers crossed they don't f*ck anything up!

A little more back-story for anyone who is interested:
I had the car repainted by some friends of mine in the auto-body program (also free, except the cost of the paint and materials). It was originally the beautiful plum/maroon color, with an atrocious gold pinstripe up the character line. I had it painted Audi's OEM "Laser Red" which was made famous by the B5 S4 (a car that I WILL own at least one of in the hopefully not too distant future). The interior was/is gray, but ever since I had her painted that shockingly bright red, I have longed for a black interior, and proceeded to slowly but surely make it so. I have replaced the carpet, headliner, and rear shelf with black replacements, and have started painting several interior pieces the same. I'll work on getting a build thread and photos up over the next few months.

Cheers!
-Jake

I have got 218k on my 93 90cs. Still runs like a champ! I habe had it since 08 and 160k. Have had to do basic stuff but nothing serious. I can take it to redline and do on a daily bassis. It sounds great to with a cold air intake and cat back exhaust. I am only getting about 18-20mpg but I do drive it hard and only drive in the city.

All if your cars are just broke in. I just turned over 361,000 miles on my 92 100S. Car has been in the family since new. Motor has never been touched and the transmission has never been off the engine. Yes that means original clutch she burns a little oil (1qt/1000 miles) and smokes some times but I still avg a solid 27 mpg combined and 32 mpg on road trips. Take care of the 12v they will go forever
