Default no high beems

Hello all I know I have asked in the passed but I didnt get much help. I will need to get my car inspected this month so I will need highbeems I have no highbeems and the dash sign for the highbeems doesn't come on at all. I was thinking it was the ignishen switch but then I would think other things wouldn't be work. As of right now the things that don't work are the highbeems and the fog lights. The place I have work on my car was thinking it is the switch on the steering wheel?? I will be haveing it fixed one way or another because I need a sticker but thanks for any info I can get here. It will be in the shop soon because I was told I need the T-Rods in the back replaced I guess there is some play .

Default Sounds like a bad headlight switch.

There are separate fuses for the high beams though. Did you check those?
I assume you tried changing the bulbs already.

Yes I have checked the bulbs and looked at the fuse they both seem to be good.

Default do you mind if I ask a few ??'s

are you using the stock headlights or the S4 headlights..

how did you check the bulb..(you said it seems to be working not it is working)

have you check the wire leading to the bulb to see if you have voltage..

I would start at the light and work my way back to the switch.. Also I don't remember the high beams being monitored by the auto check...

The power was checked last time it was in the shop and there didn't seem to be power going to the highbeems. I have taken the bulbs out and looked at them the little elements on both low and highs looked good.I have the stock headlights , I have the s4 one just not in the car. Tabs broken and they need lense,s just haven't went threw with the swap

Hi You should spray the switch on the steering wheel with Q20< I had the same problem. Going at 140MPH (Emergency) and the high beams go out Scary s@@@!!!! Just try it mine worked sometimes then didn't try it it must work!

My 96 A6 quattro has no high beams (unless you pull the stick toward you). As well as this the horn doesn't work and the sunroof doesn't work. I am not sure about the radio as there isn't one installed at the moment.
From all my reading here I am leaning toward the ignition switch being the problem..
I was wondering if there is a specific test procedure to see if that is the problem.
Also if anyone has a backup of the service manual I seem to have misplaced mine....
