Intake runner vacuum diaphragm/bellows/actuator/etc info
Hello everyone,
I just wanted to pass this information along. There is a well known problem and fix regarding the broken plastic arms for the variable intake runner on these cars. This post more so concerns the actual vacuum diaphragm/bellows that actuate the intake runner.
I upgraded my broken arms to a nice steel version and maybe a year later tracked down a check engine code (sorry I don't remember which code now) to find that the rubber diaphragm for one of my actuators was torn. There are two numbers on the part, Hella #004 538 on the body, and Audi#077 907 327 A on the tab where the arm connects. I initially had no luck tracking down a replacement. I made several "repairs" using a silicone gasket sealer layer over the tear, which would only last me a month or two.
Anyways, after heavy searching I found a couple posts, one in the A8 forum and one in another website's forum, about other makes that use and sell the same part. One apparently is Lamborghini, the other is Land Rover. The Land Rover part is easy to find, and I purchased one for ~$75. The part is the exact same, just a slight angle difference in the ball where the actuator arm connects. My replacement arms are adjustable so this was no problem.
I wanted to try to make this information a bit more well known in the A6 forum, so below is the Land Rover part number and a link to the A8 forum discussing intake runner arms, diaphragms, etc.
