Default Oil change

I've an 09 Q5 3.2L and I'm going to get oil change at my mechanic not the dealer this time. The dealer used to put castrol edge 5w-40 but I can't find 5w-30 near my location. My question is: will it be ok to use 5w-30? Also if I switched from castrol to Mobil 1, will this make any difference. By the way, I've 59400 on the clock now...... Thanks and merry christmas to all

As Spijun notes, you probably want to run an oil that meets one of the two VAG specs: 502.00 or 504.00

The majority of "5W30" oils are "energy conserving" and won't meet the min HTHS spec for your engine. It's pretty simple.

IMO, the easiest oil to find is the Mobil 1 0W40 product over at W*mart where you'll find a 5 qt jug for $24.xx. This oil meets 502.00 and many other Euro certifications.

Autozone used to carry the Castrol 5W40 oil. Is that no longer the case?

Believe it or not Audi in Europe used oil 5w-30 in 90% of cases
