Default Question, do I worry............

I guess about a month ago, ~1K miles, I had to throw in ~ 3/4 Qt of oil, that was at ~ 7500 miles. The dealer changed the oil at 5K. So today, while doing the plugs, I checked, ~ 8800 miles, and it was 1/2 Qt low. I'm not leaking oil from what I can see. Is anyone using this much oil?

Default Are you saying you have used 1.25 qts in ~3800 miles?

Or did I misunderstand/screw up the math (again)?

I don't know the spec these days for going after oil consumption under warranty, but it used to be that you had to prove use of more than a quart per 900-1000 to get a free engine job out of Audi. Back then it was usually valve guides that went bad and you could see a puff of blue smoke at each shift.

My 2.0 uses about 1/2 - 3/4 of a quart between (5k) oil changes.

Default have same issue am at 25k I think it's getting better

I was having similar issues - had oil change not too long ago so haven't check recently but yeah I was dumping oil in it - I tend to wind it out on the highway when getting on and then when I get a clear shot..dunno if that is a factor

no leaks no warnings no issues enginewise ever.

Default yes, I'm close to that if not there......

I have a 2000 Jetta that burns like a qt every 10 miles so I'm a veteran, but I need to keep a close eye, and start documenting.
thanks guys!

The check oil engine went on last week when I was driving back from SF, it was at its very low. I took it to the dealership @ commonwealth Audi the next day and they filled it up for me. It is true that it burns the oil real fast.

Did you check the level after the oil change? They could have shortchanged you on accident.

Default I think the A3's 2.0T goes through oil

Mine isn't leaking either that I can see visibly yet it goes through quite a bit of oil.

Default At the risk of starting flame war #1 again ...

... I wonder how many of the "don't believe the manual; you can break it in by flooring it right from mile one" posse are now beginning to experience high oil consumption?

Not trying to blame anyone or suggest that you, MD, did this, but I'm just curious.

Default No, owned too many cars to.....

go down that road. I tend to, for the most part, take it easy up front. I'm just a little leery cause of the MKv platform, all the VW ties....and my experience w oil burnin' VW's.
