Default Re: Not really 'late' but within the new recommended time frame

So if Audi decides to change the recommended servicing time frame on a timing belt or water pump, how is the average person supposed to get this information? It seems like an acknowledgement of a problem on their part and they should be responsible for getting this info out via a campaign, mailing etc.

Default I dont think you will win though

It is a known issue among B6 A4 people to change their timing belt around 50-60k miles. I swapped mine around 53K miles and found my water pump was about to go.

Default Well Audi did change it to 75k for the timing belt

At least thats what it says in the manual. Then again they also say to change the oil every 10k miles.

I think ill listen to my gut and change the timing belt much earlier.

Default Not really trying to be one. It's well known that driving past 60K on original t-belt/pump on...

the 1.8T is asking for trouble.

Default quite possible - cavitation causes pitting and corrosion on metal impellers...

I guess the plastic ones are more resilient in that regard?

plus the plastic impellers are lighter weight.
