Climate control issues
Hello, just become an owner of a 2004 TDI Allroad. It is a lovely beast, although we did not get off to a good start - the alternator died within 24 hours of purchase. After a few days in the garage, things are improving.
However, the climate control (typical two-way split digital thing) will not leave ECON mode. Ironically, I put it in a couple of days ago to see if it made a difference with fuel but it will not go back to auto. From the outset, VCDS (genuine/expensive lead), has not been able to read the HVAC on channel 08 - it just says no response from controller. I took my lead with me when I viewed the car and found it strange that VAG-COM could not read the controller then. It was working though, just the air on the driver's side was not as cold as the passengers.
I have also tried the diagnostics via the display but I cannot make sense of the numbers compared to the tables online - are there different versions of this?
Does anyone have some hints to begin with please, how do I remove the climate control panel if I need to, do I have to take out the RNS-E unit above?
Thank you,
Andrew

Ok, I tried again with Vag-Com, nothing. Going through the display based diagnostics, I have copied all of the codes down but I suspect this one "23 03" is likely to be the DTC. If the code tables apply, this seems like a high-pressure switch (23) but I do not know what 03 means.
Very frustrating without Vag-Com connecting.
