Default 4.2 Heated Steering Wheel to 2.7

I just got a hold of a '04 4.2 heated steering wheel for cheap and will like to get it installed to my '05 2.7. Is the 4.2 HSW plug and play on my 2.7? If not, what else is required? Thanks in advance.

Can't help much, other than it is not plug and play and a good amount of work is required.

My mechanic has replaced tons of vw/audi steering wheels but has not done a retrofit. I convinced him for us to give it a go but just wanted to know if there was anything else needed like cables, adapters, module etc... so we are ready. Has anyone on here done this retrofit on the later C5 AR? So far I have not found any postings of help on this subject. Let me know if anyone has something on this, thanks in advance.

You need the clockspring and the harness now that you have the wheel. The heat is controlled by the driver's heated seat switch. Seat heat on = wheel heat on (I think the wheel turns off after it warms up though.

Clockspring p/n: 4B0951543

Harness p/n: 4B0971589

Heated steering wheel is one of my favorite options. It makes driving the car in chilly/cold weather much more enjoyable while the car warms up.

There is some additional logic. The heated steering wheel will turn on only when the outside temperature is below +5C and the seat heater is on.

So I'm not sure what it would entail to program that.

Sounds like a really interesting and beneficial upgrade, hope it works! Unfortunately Audi's parts and service computer programs are designed to help you put the original parts in the original, factory locations or I would offer some assistance. However, they can be tricked and I might be able to help if you run into problems and have some part numbers to throw my way, good luck and hopefully we can help you out.

I recently asked those who know about putting an MFSW in my '02. My '03 has it and I love it.
This is going to be a major project.
Here's a link to the thread in case you're interested in the expert's opinions.

Good luck and keep us posted on your progress.
