I had a great time!! Wish I could do that every weekend!

My favorite events were the speed laps around the track and the timed autocross. Other events were: wet-handling course, accident avoidance (I kicked butt in this one!) and test drive.

The speed laps were fun! I snatched an A6 4.2. Me and the hubby got to do 2 laps each, then the pro took over for 2 more laps. That 4.2 kicks!! Smoooooooth responsive power! The sport mode is awsome!! I'm gonna have to get me a V8 next time! The best part was when the pro took over.. made me feel like I took those laps like a wimp! Amazing at how far you can push those cars! Felt like we were just on the edge of being out of control! The S8 also dominated the track. On the first lap he would hang out in last place like a wolf hunting it's prey... then on the second lap he would just thunder past everyone else! It was soooo impressive how easily that massive car roared past everyone!

Auto-X: I could do this all day! I let the hubby go first so I could get a good view of the course. The short course had many tight turns, a slalom section, and a yummy chicane. When it was my turn, I ran the first lap in Auto mode - final time was 41.68. The second lap I used Tip mode - final time was 40.31. (Yes, I did beat my hubby! ). I think there's a trick to running the Auto-X in the 2.7T. It seems like you have to apply WOT just before you hit the apex so that the engine has time to catch up and launch you out of the turn. I wish I could've run it just one more time! I know I could've run under 40sec! Although, I don't think I did too bad as a first-timer in a non-sport A6 2.7T!! Of course, the TTs and the S4s got the best Auto-X times.

Accident avoidance: In this course you launch off the line and head towards a fork where the course breaks off to the left and right. There are 2 green lights that you keep an eye on at the far end of the course. One will turn red, so you must react and break off to the green side, then apply the brakes to activate the ABS. I ran this one 4 times and the instructors said I did it perfect every time! I told them I get alot of practice at "idiot avoidance" down here in Miami. One of the instructors suggested I look into the SCCA events.

Overall, we had an EXCELLENT time! (as you can tell by all the !!!s! )

Default Midori - Looks like you had a blast! How would you descibe the difference between...

how your 2.7t performed vs. the 4.2? I assumed you had the a/c on during the runs?

Default 2 totally different cars!

Yes, the a/c was on, and the 4.2 was in sport mode. The difference was most obvious coming out of the turns. In the speed laps on the track when I was exiting a turn, as soon as I applied WOT the power was right there and launched the car out of the turn.

From what I noticed in 2 runs of the short auto-x course in my car, I would apply WOT at the apex of a turn, but the engine took a bit to catch up - so I wasn't launching out of the turn like I should have. I think the trick was to apply WOT slightly before the apex so the engine would catch when you really wanted it to.

Of course, this is just a first-timer's observation.

Default The trick on the auto-X...

with the 2.7T is to select Tip mode and leave it in 1st and 2nd gear. Once it shifts out of 1st the car stays in 2nd gear. Since it will hold 2nd, there is little lag in both the transmission and turbos when exiting turns. I beat all but one of the TT times because they were busy missing shifts between 1st and 2nd.

I would agree...it's all about timing your WOT to have the turbos spool at the apex

I ran in "2" which seemed to have some hesitations.

"Wide open throttle" (Pedal all the way down, but not clicking the kickdown switch on an auto)
