Somewhere in the 15MPH-> 25MPH range as I pushed it through a tight turn. It's possible I'm mistaking the feeling/sensation for something else. I've never had an AWD car before; always a FWD...so in the past the majority of my turns have been with a feeling of understeer. I'll need to try doing more turns with the sports diff in comfort mode to see if the feeling is less-pronounced.

SD works from a standstill. Any time there is TQ present, it can be moved, even under braking and coasting - the TQ is just coming into the DS from the wheels to be redirected, rather than the driveshaft.

Is there any way to make Dynamic the default when turning the car on? I've had the car for 2 weeks now and used to switching modes to dynamic. Would be great to make it the default setting.

That's a limitation of the pre-facelift models, the default can be changed from Auto but only with a VAG-COM cable and s/w.

Glad I got the sports diff. Was kind of puzzled how an AWD vehicle needed it.

In dynamic mode the car is a beast. It helps the beast stay in control. We have some very nice banked and curved roads near me and it was amazing how well the S4 behaves under full throttle conditions with this added feature. I kept waiting for the back end to come out under me and after a while I was hitting on ramps near 90 mph with no lack of control.

excellent read on the sports diff...a bit of marketing stuff but it also answers the question:

http://audiusanews.com/newsrelease.d...&id=781&mid=44

"The functions of the sport differential can also be varied to suit the driver’s individual wishes. In the ‘comfort’ mode, driving safety and the car’s stability have absolute priority, with optimal damping of load reversals. In the ‘auto’ mode the program achieves a harmonious balance between all the functions. Finally, the ‘dynamic’ mode emphasizes the functions contributing towards agility, so that the action of the sport differential is most easily felt. In this case, response to load reversals is both agile and easily controllable."

I had the chance to try the different SD settings this weekend on a wet skidpad and it is very noticable. You won't mistake the difference between comfort and dynamic mode once you get close to the edge of adhesion. With dynamic, you have the ability to throttle steer almost like a RWD and can easily induce oversteer (although I found that even with ESP switched off, it still felt as if there was some intervention in the system. I did try holding the ESP-off button for 5 seconds later on per my instructor's advice). With comfort the car "plows" like an old fashioned Quattro.
