do i have elect parking brake or not
I have a 2003 A8 L Quattro 4.2L MFR model code 4D82GZ. from what I have been told I need a VAG/COM to release the rear brakes to change pads. but I do not see any electrical hook-up on the caliper. or is this one of the "odd ducks" out there that has a few hold overs from the previous years? there is a "normal looking" parking brake lever in the console not a button. on the caliper there is a cable and lever on the bottom rear of the piston chamber. so can I just change the pads as a "normal" job or do I need the VAG/COM?

Where are you/which A8 version is it?
If you are in North America/USA, a 2003 would be the last of the now two generation old D2's and would not have the electric parking brake.
If you are in Europe, a 2003 will be the first of the newer (now last) generation D3, which is the generation of A8's when the electric parking brake was introduced. In the USA, the first of those are 2004's. Said another way, new Audi's are usually intro'ed first in Europe, and this cutover year from one generation to the next depending on geography can make parts listings and info (and even this board sometimes) more confusing.
