Just thought I'd share a few pics of the results of my brake upgrade. I was not satisfied with the performance of the stock brakes during spirited drives so I decided an upgrade was necessary. One of my primary requirements was to be able to fit 16" wheels over my brakes as did not want to upgrade my wheels at this time.
I initally bought the A8 rotor/TT caliper kit but was wondering if I would be satisfied with it. I started searching for other brake kits that would fit 16" wheels and did not find too many. Most of the kits I found were too cost-prohibitive for me. I couldn't justify paying $3000 or more for some of these kits. I even called up Stoptech to see if they could help, but I was told that they were designing something due out at the end of the year that would allow A4 16" wheel fitments. I didn't want to wait that long. I ended up looking at BIRA's System 1 setup with Boxster calipers & A8 rotors. I liked the concept and the price was within my reach, but some (not all) of the legal stuff made me feel uneasy. Luckily, ORS Motorsport sells the System 1 kit without the need to sign any liability release form. So I pulled the trigger... The kit came Friday and I installed this Saturday morning. It was a fairly simple thing to remove the old calipers & rotors and replace them with the new stuff. Wrench off... Wrench on... Check everything twice & throw the wheels back on. No comments as to their performance yet as I've only driven enough to bed the pads. I look forward to putting them to the test during my next driving school though. Otherwise, I can say that the System 1 fits behind my A6 2.7T 5-spoke wheels with more that 10mm of clearance between the caliper and the wheel spokes (no spacer used!!), so I assume that most, if not all 16" wheels that fit over the A6 2.7T/S4 brakes will fit over the System 1 kit. I have also 5mm spacers handy when I use the stock 10-spoke wheels. That's enough babbling for now so here are the pics. I welcome your comments. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
