Default Impressions about Subaru WRX after LA Auto Show...

Those of you who said you would buy this car because of its performance rather than its build quality better think twice. I've actually sit in this car and it amazes me that the interior materials are as cheap as those you'll find in a rental Sature. Parts are mostly hard plastic and they're so filmy. The steering wheel is covered with fake leather and feels hard. The door feels so light that you would wonder what can happen to you in a side impact. For about the same price I think our Quattro 1.8 A4 is a much better deal than the Subaru WRX. By the way the car does look much better in person than it is in picture.

Default It's honestly not even close to the same price...thousands and thousands off the mark...a loaded

Subaru with all the fixins comes out to less than 23,000 a loaded 1.8T Quattro is over 30,000 that's a big difference.

Default I test drove an older 2.5RS...(2001?)...and the thing is a dump on the inside..

It was supposedly brand new and the shifter knob was about to fall off and the volume button on the radio had disappeared.

Would definitely buy the car if it was anything remotely close to the WRX's in Asia.

Default Re: Steering wheel....

...I'd be shocked if that was "fake leather" on that Momo steering wheel.

Doors have side-impact beams in them...shouldn't be an issue in an impact.

That's cool that the car looks better in person than in the picture, cause I was never too fond of the new look.

I totally agree. On the new Impreza WRX site the A4 is listed as one of the competitors, as well as a BMW. I think the MSRP for the WRX was listed as a little more than 24K.

Default I think I'll try to drink it pretty before I render full judgement on looks.

Default it is real leather... the asian market imprezzas/legacys have had them...

for a while... Believe you me, when I was in japan, I spent a fair amount of time in the osaka subaru dealer... damn... I would take a home market legacy over my A4. Sorry. I was a subie owner. Yes, the quality of the A4 is higher in terms of cottling and luxury, but really, subies are damn reliable cars. and a 276 hp(+) subaur wagon would be a damn hoot around town...

and they come with xenons in asia as well.

Default from a huge family of subarus.... I say

that yeah, it is readily apparant that the subie is the top of a econo brand the audi is the bottom of ta luxury brand. It shows. But the car is TOTALLY safe, subies are good like that. The interior door panel doesn't save you at all really, it is the door frame and crossmemebers.

while the styling is subjective, you can't argue against the AWD performance. It is a hot little car. From a pure value point of view, I would have to side with the subie. If it had come out a year earlier, I am not sure if I would be in my A4, which I love, or the Imprezza. Not sure honestly.

There WILL be an aftermarket for this car, and the chassis is great, if previous subaru's are any indication.

Subaru knows its ****, and this is even a tuned down verion for our shores!
