Default ISO the "best" street + track tires available (non-R compound).

I always thought that Falken 615s were the hands-down favorite, but I've seen a few bits of information suggesting that they're a good, sticky tire for autocross, but they get greasy when hot.

Default Re: ISO the "best" street + track tires available (non-R compound).

i havent driven on street tires at the track in a long time but...

yes, i have noticed that the falkens get greasy towards the end of a DE session...

i used kumho mx's and they worked fine on track and weren't terribly expensive...

i've heard that michelin ps2's were pretty darn good on track as well but they are more costly...

recently i've heard a lot of good things about some of the hankook street tires (not sure what model) and they are pretty cheap...

i'd get the cheapest decent tire i could find that would stand up (decently) to track use...no point in spending extra to get a slightly faster street tire for a DE

Default Thanks. Great advice. Best trackable street tire is like the world's tallest dwarf.

Default A vote against Dunlop SP Sport MAXX here, but I liked the Goodyear F1-GSD3 on the track

just its now an expensive tire. Although, its also awesome on the street, resists hydroplaning well, resists tramlining, etc.

Default looking around the paddock the last coupla DE events, I'd say the new favorite is the Yoko Neova

it also seems to be have surpassed the Azenis in the AutoX street-tire classes too, at least for the cost-no-object guys.

that being said, i still think it's hard to get a better overall value than you get with the 615s. very good grip for the price.
take the 'getting greasy' thing with a grain of salt too: show me a street tire that *doesn't* get greasy after several laps!!! the people who said that about the Azenis were unfairly putting too much expectation on it, comparing it to entry-level R comps, which it's not.

Default you're probably referring to the Hankook RS2 Z212. supposably comparable to the Azenis

but I've never tried 'em.

Default I highly recommend the Bridgestone Potenza RE-01R. Great on street and track.

comfy and quiet ride too.

Default The Hankooks tramline like a mofo.

I've been using them for 2 years at HPDEs. I run -2.6* camber in front, so this may contribute to my comments. I need to keep two hands on the wheel at all times with the Hankooks. But they stick great and resist hydroplaning well. If overdriven, they'll begin to get slick (overheated) and will begin to chunk but that happens with most street tires. I'm going to try the RT-615 this season and see how they work on the heavy Galant.
