http://www.scca-chicago.com/solo/indexes/rtp02.html is the url page.
I'll give a brief explanation of PAX/RTP for those of you who may not be familiar with the idea of an index class. The index allows cars that are hugely dissimilar to race head to head against each other. A competitor would take their index time, multiply by their index # and then add on any cone or gate penanlties. There's a term, "soft index" which means that the cars in class are faster than their index, sometimes by a huge amount. Come 2002, a stock legal S4 will be _THE_ deffination of soft pax! 0.798 is as slow as DS was when I started out autocrossing and DS was neons! Oh, SM is 0.834 for those who are interested. Note that SS is 0.836, so you'd only have to lose by a little bit to SS to win! Or, someone with a CSP crx, RX3 or miata can strap on forcd induction, fatter rims and rubber and then procede to get a softer index! HAHA Well I'm off to test what happens in NWR-SCCA's results given the new index #'s! |

Interesting data follows:
To quote my 2001 codriver, Jeff Winchell "Due to index changes and class changes Favorable: Audi S4 went from .817 to .798 Neon ACR's .796 PAX to .785. In the opposite direction: S2000 and Boxster from .820 PAX to .828 Type R, Audi TT, IS300, WRX, DSM Turbo, BMW 3 series NOC,Celica GTS ('00+) from .789 to .798" Also, I don't know if there are any guys who follow the PAX class in seattle but there are sone interesting changes if the 2002 index is used. http://PonyCar.Net/NWR_What_If.asp To recalculate the season's results in PAX and PAX Ladies if we had used the RTP index this year, and another scenario if we used the 2002 PAX index and the new class structure for Stock. Otherwise I, and everyone else in G-Stock, would have been one place lower in all the events last season.
Looks like the Neons will be my problem in 2002

I've finished my first season up here in seattle shooting it out with the likes of Ron Bauer, Joe Goeke, Alan Dahl, Glen Hernandez, Stacey Molliker, Curt Ormiston, Jodi Fordahl, Greg Fordahl, Scotty B. White, etc. You get a whupping but I consider it a whupping for educational purposes!
www.nwr-scca.org has the results if anyone is curious. BTW, 2002 will be my first season running a borrowed Audi so wish me luck. The ACR is getting parked! |
