[quote=Iron_Mike;24249736]@ mishar: thank you as always for your help !
![]() below is the pic of the charger I'll use. As you can see it has the jumper cables and also a dedicated 12V DC power outlet. Do NOT use that device to connect to your battery during your upgrade. It is NOT a battery charger...it is jumper battery. It is nothing more than another (SMALLER) battery. It should be used only for jumping a dead battery. That 12V DC cigarette lighter hole is just that: a power source for other 12V DC devices. It will NOT charge your battery by connecting it to your A8L via the cars cigarette lighter connection. ..but hey, it might provide enough power to a dead or dieing battery to get you through the MMI Update...but I wouldn't do it. Buy a REAL battery charger that has an auto-charging feature (i.e. auto-off once battery is fully charged) and has selectable current switch (most have 2 amp, 10 amp, and 50 amp---50 amp is for jumping a dead battery). |

Folks and Iron Mike: do NOT use that or any other "jumper" battery during this Update process. You need/should use a REAL battery charger. Iron Mike, what you have there is just a spare/emergency jumper battery..it should be used only for dead batteries or when you need a jump. Those LEDs on your battery there are to show you if the spare/jumper battery is charger..they dont show you if the car's battery is charged. ..just don't want other folks to get confused is all. I have the same jumper/emergency battery... |

But - to make long story short - I did hook up exactly this charger to the battery in the trunk and successfully upgraded... I do believe though that the charger wasn't even needed in my scenario as the upgrade process was fairly quick (exact times are stated in this thread)... and I upgraded from 0600 (very first sw version), so my update process might be the longest possible... |

Did the update, went through the whole process, as I hit restart MMI, it keeps looping at the beginning screen with the Audi Rings (MMI) stays there for 30 seconds, then shuts off then loops again. I shut off the car, MMI is stuck and will not shut down, still trying to restart. Now what?
I'm f'd right? |

Give us some background.. What version did you come from? Did your car have sufficient power throughout the upgrade? I believe there is a way to vag-com into the system and do a reset to restart the upgrade somehow.

I had the factory version I believe. I upgraded with the 4L0906961H. I left the car running during this process. I had an error, but when I re-tried, it went through. It appeared it was finished with the install, when I selected to restart, this is where the issues occurs. My MMI unit stays on and will not power off when I shut the car off. It is stuck at the Welcome screen with Audi's 3 rings. I took out the fuses, waited a bit, put them back, nothing changed. It just resest every min or so.

alright, did another MMI upgrade, this time on a 2006 D3 A8, going straight from 1190 to 4610.
Information on another upgrade I did can be found in this thread, that was a 2004 D3 A8L going from 0600 to 4610. On this MMI update, I went straight to 4610 (from 1190), not going 3360 first and had a Schumacher battery charger hooked up to the battery during the upgrade process. - CD1 of the 4610 MMI version is the "Cleanup" disc and prepares older MMI versions for the 4610 upgrade. had to run that disc twice, with MMI restarts after each run, both time it only updated one module (Handyvorb). It took app. 4.5 mins the first run and 35 mins the second run. SW still showed 1190 after the Cleanup disc ran for the second time. - CD2 of the 4610 MMI version is the "Update" disc. This one then installs / updates missing or outdated modules. Had to run this disc twice as well, with MMI restarts after each run. It took app. 32 mins the first run (updating 6 modules) and 1.5 mins the second run (updating 1 module). SW now shows 4610. AMI works. Re-enabled battery meter and Instrument cluster via VCDS. Altogether it took about 80 mins. That is about 40 mins longer than the 2004 D3 A8L update, but that car obviously had less modules to update / install. So again confirming that one can update straight to 4610. - M |

So I think I am running the earliest version of software available, 0.6.00.
![]() Should I worry about updating if nothing is wrong? What would I be gaining or loosing from doing an upgrade? Also, how can I tell if my MMI has bluetooth? |
