I've seen a couple posting but not many - I think most people choose AWD if they can, but if you're not using it in bad weather or highly sporty driving, you may not need it. I've driven one without and it drove very nicely (though obviously not like my TTS).

I've got one, and would make the same decision again even if Quattro was available at the time. We have very mild winters in Georgia, so AWD is not a necessity in this part of the country. I drive my Quattro Avant and FWD TT back to back all the time, and the TT always feels sportier so I don't feel like I'm sacrificing much. Lighter weight, less complexity, and marginally better fuel economy is a trade-off I can live with (and have, for 4 years now). Depending on the tire age/model and road surface, flooring it from a dead stop can induce wheel spin though, so there's more than enough power from a stock 2.0T to break loose 2 tires, and this is about the only time I wish I had 4 drive wheels. But I don't drive like that very often, so it's almost never an issue.

I have to agree with Ben. I had a 01 roadster and drove it when the weather was nice and dry. It was great and I enjoyed it alot, but the weather in the Northwest is shall we say rainy for a good part of the year. I went to a 08 quattro coupe so that I could drive it all year. Don't regret it at all. But if you live where there is a lot of dry days, then you can't go wrong with the FWD. I little torch steer with the power of the turbo engine, I would have put in a LSD if I had kept it, but fun to drive.
