Default instrument voltage regulator

My fuel gauge has been slow but does work but my temp sensor has been dead even though I replaced the brown sensor 6 months ago.

I thought I would try the chip so I tested the chip in my 88 first and in was over 12V while output was 10.05 which is right on spec according to Bentley.

Tested the one in my 94, same thing, in volts were fine and output was too.

I was there so I swapped the chips out and tested it again, all in spec.

Started it up to idle and the gas gauge worked as before and the temp gauge started to rise and then as quickly died.

I guess this eliminates the chip as being the issue. I was informed 775 ITT chips are still in the US warehouse so stock is not as low as I figured for the fact this chip has not been in production for over a decade.

Next would be checking the fuel level sensor and the coolant sensor. Something has to give here, this is annoying.

I also discovered my late build 93' does not have a VDO cluster but UN4, strange I thought the VDO was up to 95?

Good to know and honestly the Germans are good with mechanics but the Japanese still rule electronics.

One could argue the Nippon-Seiki should be more durable, less prone to flake out.
