Default Color choices

Hi,

I'm in need of color advice. I am torn between oolong gray, havana black and quartz gray.

My favorite is Havana Black; what worries me is the maintenance. I have read (never owned) that black cars are a nightmare to keep looking good. How hard is it to keep Havana Black looking OK? Is it easier than a flat black?

Oolong is my second choice (or first if the black is hard to keep). I don't like it under some lighting conditions, but love it most of the time. How's upkeep on this one?

Quartz is the safe choice; easy to care for, doesn't show dirt. But I've had three gray cars in a row, so I want a change.

Thanks,

Mike

I have Oolong grey, very unique color it changes depending on light/sun conditions. It is black in shade, dark green in light, or purple, sometimes dark brown. Less maintenance than black but it is close to Havana black. Pictures do not show its true depth. But 3 colors are nice, least to maintain is Quartz.

I like A6 in dark colors since it is big car,but really it is personal taste & all three are beautiful colors.

I have Havana black with nougat brown interior and it's a great combination. I line in AZ so cars tend to get dusty. I do keep a California duster in my garage and use it once or twice a week. I was worried about dirt with this color but the only real issue I had was after it rained. Then I washed it and put on some eagle nano wax and the car looks great. I'm with the previous poster, I think the A6 looks best in darker colors, but it is all about personal preference. Enjoy your car.

I have a new A6 Avant on route, havana black. They are difficult to keep clean but boy do they look nice when polished up.

Love my havana black! I just get it washed after it rains, and it is usually kept in a garage. The only problem for me is dust, which certainly shows, but that's easy to take care of once a week.

If you're super concerned about easy maintenance, I'd go quartz (it was my second choice in color after havana). But if you're willing to put in a bit of work to keep it clean go with havana.

I have Phantom on my 2010 and just ordered Phantom again on my 2013. Ease of care is up to your definition - i live in the Northwest so i will wash my car only to have it rain again a day later - due to the metallic flake in all of those options, it hides the dirt well and unless in direct sunlight looks good. I am super **** about my car and i have 2 young kids and i travel (fly) a lot for work yet i still find it easy to keep the car looking good.

If you are not into detailing cars, stick with the quartz grey.

I went through a similar thought process and ended up with Quartz. Mine is parked in the driveway at night and the thought of maintaining a black or near-black car was nightmarish. Very happy with Quartz as it's not the usual flat grey and hints of teal, blue/green.

I have always had gray cars and I don't think I will be going a different color anytime soon. And for my first - still in transit - Audi, Oolong was my first choice, but ended up with Daytona. I must add that both blacks, Havana and Phantom look incredibly nice on the A6 but, at least in my dusty enviroment, it would be quite difficult to maintain it clean.

Oolong and Dakota are both really nice rich colors, but tend to look a bit warm - brownish - at times, which I am not particularly fond of. So that's why I went for Daytona, which is a much cooler shade. That is, blue, green, golden hints, instead of red and orange in Oolong and Dakota.

And I agree with the rest of the posters here, Quartz Gray is probably your best choice, although it is a bit too light for my own personal taste.

So my advise to you would be Quartz and Daytona (if available within your reach).

Cheers,
Bill

I like Daytona gray. Did you special order it? I don't think it's a standard color for the A6.
