Default I need your help.... If these 225 TT's have an oil cooler. Where is it?

I just pulled the shrouding off the engine from above and below. I've traced the AC and power steering lines all over the place. I don't see an oil cooler or any oil cooler hoses.

You guys/gals have a lot more experiance under the hood of a TT then I do. Does anyone have a picture or schematic ??

I also notice a semi rigid AC line in direct contact with the oil filter. Where it does contact the filter there is a rubber hose "cover". (I assume) to protect the hose from heat & friction. This rubber hose cover is already torn apart. Should I rig up a fix or make a big deal of it?

Your suggestions on thes two items would be appreciated.

Default It is the silver 2" thick square box between the oil filter and the engine . ..

coolant lines are running to and from this box. Radiator coolant is circulating through this box and drawing away heat from the oil back through the radiator.

It is not a separate oil cooler as you might have been thinking of.

Default Thank you. That explains why I saw nothing that looks like a cooler or oil cooler hoses

Default My British Leyland (MGB) history has limited my idea of what a cooler would look like.

THANK YOU

Default yeah, it's an oil-to-water heat exchanger actually

vs your standard oil-to-air radiator cooler. This unit (in the TT) actually allows the water to warm the oil and vs versa to supposedly get your car to temp faster. Or so I'm told by those that seem to know!

cheers

Default I can see that now.... Thanks.. I also see there seem to be aftermarket coolers?

Then again, after my experience with oil in the antifreeze, I don't think I'd risk the warranty implications if it happened again and caused real damage
