I used to do this when I drove an Avalon and was ticket free for a long time. When I switched to the S4, I knew I had to have some form of ECM/EWS and it has saved me a few times (twice from direct LIDAR hits).

Thanks for all the great tips, after lots of research I chose the Escort 9500ix. Seemed like the best all around unit and best results for reducing false alerts. commence the speeding

I love mine. Buying a second one for my Q7. Unlike any other detector I've owned... When this thing speaks I listen!

I have been using radar dectors in every one of my cars (41 as of last count) for the past 30+ years. I have had everything from the old Fox and Fuzzbusters to Escort, Bel and Valentine. I have found nothing ever to be as good or reliable as K40. I have had both the installed and the dash top models in all of our Audis, Porsches, BMWs and Mercedes. I am sure that other brands are adequate-I had particularly liked Beltronics before switching to K40. Aside from performance, their customer service has been superb.

Got my last highway speeding ticket while driving my '02 A6 2.7t ten years ago. Bought a V1 and haven't had another. I have since received speeding tickets on local roads but only State police is allowed to use radar in PA.

Here is something interesting that they have been doing in MD on 695. Have to admit it is rather "Sporting" of them as it does give you an opportunity to tone it down before getting popped.
They will have the displays that give current speed and about 50 yards after that you get hit with a laser that either tags you for speeding with camera or not. The remote reader uses K band and then 50 yards later, "Laser Alert" reads out loud and clear on my BEL. So as other's ahve said if your speed reasonably around 20+ then a radar detector will save you most of the time. Above that or disregard the warnings and you need a jammer as well. I can say that the minute I get the S4 and a tune is scheduled I will have a jammer budgeted at the same time. DrGp, Dad was Chief of Police for Delaware County in PA for years. Get them (local police) to write down how they tagged you. If they are dumb enough to say radar then fight the ticket. |

^ Exactly! Gotta love PA for that! Hardwired Valentine One here and love it! Saved me a few times with plenty of warning. Excellent detector in my opinion! Just drive smart and beware of your surroundings.
