Okay, so I decided to walk away from the Salvage AR and go with another 05 with clear title and RNS-E, Yay! I will like to install a rear camera so any advice on which to buy and install instructions will be greatly appreciated. There are some common issues going on with this one and because of that I worked the seller $2,100 down from his asking price. Car drives and feels excellent, turbos are quite and it shifts smoothly. At highway speed (85) I did noticed that the RPMs were in between 3k & 3.5K is this normal given that is a 5spd? Maybe I was not paying attention when I drove the other ARs but the RPM speed struck me odd after becoming aware of it. The bad, even though the front airbags were replace 3yrs ago with OEM bags they seemed to be leaking and will not reach the highest setting. While driving at city speed in position 3 the car later dropped to position 2 on its own then I lowered to 1 to not over work the compressor. How can one differentiate bad bags or a valve leak? There is also the usual minor valve cover oil leak which I will be having replaced. It also got a minor coolant leak which the seller told me started ever since the timing belt was replaced. Hopefully this is not a tough fix. Last but not least I did a scan and it came back with a bad EGT sensor2 which is the passenger side. I will be getting the sensor replaced eventually but I am going to wait until I do the other things first since this sensor seem to have had no affect on performance and no lights were on because of it. Correct me if I am wrong but I think this sensor might impact my gas mileage but that can wait. The sensor is expensive, part: 078919529N but is this something I can do myself without having to remove lots of things? Where in the pipe is it, if anyone knows? I think this is it guys and will be picking it up this weekend. So excited…

I would address the leaking air bags ASAP, or else your compressor will go. Even at level 1, it still struggles to pump it up and keep it there, while the leak exists. I did my passenger side with Arnott, the car still leaks, so I'm doing the driver's side (both front).
I also have the EGT passenger side sensor problem, but won't be replacing it just yet. It does not affect your mileage. As for the RPMs, that's normal. It's not a V8 with low-end torque - it's a V6. Coolant leak - chances are you'll have to put the car into service position and find out where the problem is. It's no small fix, and be prepared to spend a whole day doing it yourself, or pay someone for 4 hrs of labour to do it for you, plus whatever parts are leaking. And if you're going this far, you may as well do the full timing belt job. What mileage does your car have? P.S. I also have RNS-E in my AR - it's pretty good, I must admit. Don't install the latest software if you want to run a DVD player through it. Do some searching for "RNS-E and DVD" on Google. If you don't care about it, and just want to install a backup camera, there's plenty of resources, check out the RNS-E forums, etc...

I am not thinking of replacing the EGT right away specially if it does not affect anything but will be doing it sonn after I adrees all of the other items first. So is the EGT a turbo safety feature or something? Glad to hear the RPM speed is normal, whised Audi made the AT with 6speed same as the manual AR. I guess I am in it for a scavenger hunt with the coolant leak hope I get to identify it quicky and without hassels. AR has 93k so the timing has been done alredy. One piece of information that might help identifying the leak is that it started a while after timing was done. I am interested in playing DVDs, is that done on the headunit or installing a separate DVD player? It would be cool if I could play video through the SD card slot though. Later I will explore the possibility of adding DLNA or HDMI.

Your leak could be the water pump or the thermostat. Not an easy job to replace on the 2.7
You get the DVD player separately, and use video input on the rns-e. the later versions of software disallow playing the DVD while driving. |

I am thinking of using the RNS-E input for Bluetooth and HDMI(if possible) I will start looking to see how I can accomplish that. Thanks for all of the great information.

How does one determine bad airbags vs bad O-rings? Is there any particular symptoms/behaviors that would point to one or the other?

Spray soapy water. If the bags are older chances are it's the bags. From my research, the o-rings only leak on improper new installations.
