I'm not sure, but doesn't sport mode practically opens a new page for you to run around and become "spirited".
My D mode is quite slow compared to my sport mode. I think Sport mode puts your car in the best position it can be in terms of sporty driving.

DO NOT REMOVE THE KEY DURING THIS PROCEDURE This Works with any car that has Driver Adaptive Electronic Controlled Transmission. 1. Get in car, it doesn't matter if you close the door or not. 2. Turn the key to the on (not start) position, the position just before the starter turns over. – foot off brake - all warning lights on. 3. Press the gas pedal to the floor with the key in the "on" position. 4. Hold the pedal to the floor for five seconds, then turn the key back to the "off position". Foot off brake press start button - all lights now off (don't remove the key), then release the gas pedal. 5. Wait a full 2 minutes for a full electronic alignment. Don't remove the key. 6. Start engine & drive. I did not try the above steps neither on my BMW nor on A6 after break in (just completed A6 break in) Safest approach is to switch as suggested to dynamic mode or DS that should give you results you looking for, while you drop back to auto mode for relaxed driving. I found auto mode can pick up quiet good but it shifts too fast hence Sport mode is the safest approach.

Press Start button with foot off the brakes (without depressing the brake pedal), that should start ignition On.
