Default Mirror tinting panorama roof?

just picked up a 2010 Q5 yesterdau

its for the wife and i know the panorama roof could/will be an issue as she is not a fan of the sun lol

anyone tint their glass? or more specifically anyone use the mirror tint on it? seems like it would help keep the car cool during the summer months as well by reflecting light and since its on the roof no one will see the cheesy mirror finish

Not on the roof. Maybe to helicopter and airplane pilots.

I wanted to tint our roof as well at the window tinting place (Tint World) and they told me that if I tinted the sun/moon roof that is has a tenancy to crack. This post also talks about the dangers of tinting. Believe me, I hate having this large moon roof because it turns the entire vehicle into a green house.

I've read that the tint absorbs heat and that causes the glass to fracture. I've never heard much about mirror tinting. I would think the mirror tinting would make a great idea. I put mirror tints on a house I once lived in and our electric bill dropped by about 30%, so I know mirror tint can make a huge difference.

Another discussion of moon roof tinting dangers.

Show me panorama that was cracked just because the tint and I will believe...

We had 2 VAG cars with panorama and got both tinted with darkest 5% tint and had no issues.

I'm not sure how well the mirror works on panorama as the roof haves factory tint in the glass and to use the mirror effect (to reflect the rays back) would mean you need to install the film on outside of the glass.

How hot is it outside where you live? Where I am the temperatures range from 90-105 degrees.

Mirror tint works just like regular tint and is done on the inside. I've applied mirror tint before. I noticed a dramatic difference in the cooling, but my local tint shop warned me against it. They would have not warned me against it unless they had to foot the bill to repair somebody else's moon roof.
