^^^^ Little doubt about this. You can verify this by checking the key position after start and gently helping it rotate back to the run position. Remove any objects on the keychain not involved in operating this car. Don't over-do the troubleshooting. While the key remains in the start position after starting the car, the starter is running. Shortly you will smell it but then it is too late to save it. Add one starter to this project, and if it burned badly, pay the core charge also.
There has been a lot of discussion about the ignition switch since this article, with very knowledgable members inspecting both the genuine Audi part and aftermarket versions and finding no reason to pay more for the Audi part since improvements have been made to them that may not be in the genuine part, depending on its age. That is a pretty good write-up on the change proceedure. If you decide to tackle this yourself, (and it is not a difficult DIY project) just leave plenty of time. You should inspect the instrument panel beforehand for any dim areas that might need a new bulb, and buy the 893 919 040 A bulbs. The 2W make a lot of difference over the 1.3W original 4A0 919 040 C bulbs, and you have a dimmer to adjust them if necessary. The #2 phillips screws can be very tight-perservere. Cody mentioned at the end his bloody hand. The sheet metal edges are very sharp. Vinyl gloves can help some-thicker gloves will impair your grip on things. The bracket and flasher relay can both be unclipped and moved out of the way. The switch slides out forward on the car(which is away from you, so it was described as back). It must be aligned perfectly to slide the new part back in, and given the restricted area and limited vision with your hand in the way, it can take several tries to get it back in place.

Installed the new switch and wipers, turn signal, power windows Climate Control now work, purchased from German Auto Parts for $16 bucks it had a manufacture date of 02\2011 lets see how it holds up. Thanks to UrS4boy and scarman. I put new 2w bulbs in the instrument cluster I bought 10 needed 11. Turned on the lights to see how they looked and nothing lit up and the Climate Control lights went dark.

Either you forgot a plug on the back of the instrument cluster or it came out of position. 5 minutes to check and correct.

I have the dead battery problem I see the S4 on weekends and if I don't disconnect the battery it goes dead. The radio does not shut off when the key is removed thought the Meyle ignition switch was the problem. Replaced with Audi part from Ingrid and Bill this did not fix the problem. Am I correct with thinking that the radio should turn off when the key is removed?

Neither Meyle nor Bill and Ingrid are the problem. Glenn92 is the problem. Use thumb and forefinger of right hand to rotate power **** counterclockwise and turn radio off. If you can't remember to turn it off, don't turn it on.

I should have asked first on this. I do not leave the radio on so I have another problem with the battery drain. Thank you for info Glenn
