You are one of the RARE owners who has tobe recognized and rewarded by Audi. OR maybe punished for NOT buying a new Audi !!

Ive a 1991/100,the second after putting 160k on the previous. this one I bought at 105k, for $1200...now 145k....and some usual problems. But the ride and handling won't let me sell this sucker..not counting on 200k.The T belt etc were changed at 140k.

These models were very aerodynamic...with low drag coeff, and hell of a job in body protection..6 or 7 layers of covers, including clear coat.
The 5 cyl is a very good compromise between a long dist luxury ride[and space], ...and a daily commuter.

The problems ve been plenty which depreciated them significantly.
Mostly electrical...from climate control to windows to cooling fan relay to blower motor and many sensors.

But used Audis were a bargain to a DIY buyer.

Most probably many sellers didnot buy another Audi because of these problems...whch were too many in 1984, 85...and on.
1990 was better...but 1991, came with trqe-converter lock in Auto transmission [called electronic 4 speed] extending its life.

It will be nice if you post here what u went thru[I m sure a lot]...problems vise, and how you fixed those.

You got to appreciate the room around the inline engine to work compared to trans axles of today's FW drives.

Default Greetings!

Just bought my first Audi, 95 A6 with 147k on it...definitely liking the car, hoping tp improve/restore it with some much needed TLC...had front windshield replaced so far... have a noisy pulley or something under hood, and it needs new trim below doors, and a drivers door hinge pin, shocks/struts needed...very "floaty" ;-)..but it runs great generally...I'm excited!

Respects,
Ragga;-)

Welcome! The noise might be most likely your steering pump going bad or needing some fluid. As for the lower trim molding, I can get you good used ones, sold many of those to others for cheaper then the brand new ones. Let me know in case you want.

Pcelias..Hats off toyou !

One doesnot get 318 k..just casually, one has to take care, and care a lot to get that.
Have you ever contacted Audi..i Germany...?
You may win a free trip to their plant in there.

I ve a 1991 Sedan with Auto...and have 148 k, with numerous problems coming to bug me.

I ve some kinda short in the switch for parking lights and Hazard. Since turning parking lights up both turn signals in dull, and on turn signal use the opposite arrow comes on full illumination.

I am sure ure Computer diagnostic play goes haywire every now and then... a very common problem.

My idle is outa control....runs at 1200, when engine warm, but 800 at cold start.

The auto transmission shifts are hard. The change in fluid is due but won't help that. The transmission behaves better when cold, so I suspect some temp related control or valving is not working[A trans guy tells me a similar problem Passat had].

Now on oil consumption[ for Audi Wagon]....try BARDAHL, particularly in summer, it helps but won't bring the oil consumption to very low.

bt nmeip

This is the "correct" platform. His car is a C4 100 same as C4 A6.

Nope, 1991 C4 was only made for European market. These 2 obviously have 1991 C3 as that was the last year for that platform for United States(unless they imported a 1991 C4 from Europe which I doubt). I said once already that this is ONLY for C4 platform and so as the other forumer. They could get much more help from C3 section 4000/5000/100/(D1)V8 regarding the issue. It doesn't matter if its a 100 model. Still, the engines are in fact different between so as other parts on both platforms and I wouldn't know a thing about C3's issue if somebody like these 2 came in and asked about it. Since I'm the mod here, I'm not going to say anything else regarding this "miscommunication". They could freely write whatever they want here , probably not going to get a response but instead just flood the topic even more but whatever...

Dude: Manufacture of C4 for US market started in Sept 1991. All cars made after that date are designated as such. The poster CLEARLY stated 1992 model.

That's about the same of what I meant even though HERE in US there was no 1991 C4 model, only 1992-1994 100, S, CS. Not exactly sure which poster you are talking about here but their models are not a C4 platform and so do not belong in this discussion.

Default 1992 Audi 100 CS

This is my first Audi and although I know it's got some year and miles, I love it!! It just needs a little work but the engine runs like a champ. I need a stereo and some body work, but otherwise it's in good shape. I do need some help though. I have to replace some lamps and would love some help. I have to replace my tail lamps first and then I'm also looking for new covers for the head lamps. Anyone out there have any suggestions or can provide some help? I would really appreciate it.

Thank you,

Trey

Gang, I've owned my 1994 100CS since 1996 and I've lost count of how many miles it has on it because the odometer has not worked the past 5 years but I'd venture to say it has about 140K on it. Funny thing is I was ready for a new Audi and did test drive a 2010 A4 quatro, a nice car overall, but it helped me realise all over again how much I do love my old Audi. It's in great shape inside and out but I plan to put some money into it to make it in as new condition as possible (struts, wheel bearing, aftermarket wheels, may be a chip for a bit of increased performance, new stereo.......) so all of your improvement suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
