Where is the "safety" in having the doors locked automatically while you're in the car? I can understand it for driving through bad neighborhoods, but I want to be able to control it myself.
The coding should have nothing to do with crash unlocking the doors...if the cars crash signal unlocks the doors, it would bypass remote coding. For many years (I know on all D2's and Allroads), the crash signal goes directly to the ECM, which in turn is directly linked to the central locking module.

My past B5 Passat (2000) came from the factory (US Model) with auto-lock already coded. My D2 (2001) and Allroad (03) did not have it activated, but do have the option to add it it with Vagcom.

My guess is (and from all info I can find on short notice) that as long as VW/Audi has had auto-lock function (and airbags), it has also been linked directly to crash sensors.

I've never had an Audi with autolock. D2 S8 does not, 2004 Allroad does not. All my other Audi cars were too old for that stuff. Thanks for the inf.
