Default Service Suggestions?

On a 2003 3.0L A4 Cab, I apparently have some serious issues with the engine. There is a loud ticking in the engine. Took it to the dealer, cylinder/camshaft issue. Cylinder 1 is not getting oil pressure. They want $7,000 to repair. Anyone have service suggestions?

Ouch! Where are you located? Regardless of where, you need a second & possibly 3rd opinion. I'd cue friends & fam for a trusted mechanic...I have an 03 Cab 3.0 as well and I think for that money (I'm at 95K miles), I'd consider ditching it for a new or other car. Kelly Blue Book for my car (private party) is under $10K.
So sorry to hear of your situation! Hope you can find a mechanic w/ a better answer.
Even if you just get a diagnosis, you can see if a trusted mechanic could do that same work for less. Key word: trusted. Easier said than done I know!

Thanks, there is one other Audi shop that I know of. Talked to them and will probably take it down there to have them look at it. Apparently there are a few specialty tools needed to work on these and most shops don't have them. I'm sure it is a fairly accurate overall diagnosis, but way over priced. I am/was hoping for other suggestions for places to take it. It has been very reliable and the few smaller repairs I've been able to do.

The "way over priced" question can be settled by shopping around for quotes. No diagnosis that involves zero oil pressure, on any vehicle, is likely to lead to a trifling repair estimate. Unless its offered by someone who doesn't know or care what they're talking about.

Although it began to rain later on, Audi prepared the Auto Union Type C for the track, which took more than one hour. We could hear the engine warm up through the whole valley. Everybody was quiet, waiting for the car. The valley was the church, and the engine was a prayer with sixteen voices, praying about motorsport. And the smell from the exhaust gases of the sixteen-cylinder engine hung in the air.

FYI I took it to another shop. For nearly the same work, plus a few other maintenance items, I was quoted an estimate of $2,200. The owner took the time and thoroughly explained what they were going to do. They called back and let me know a few minor additions just to make sure it was done right.

Highly recommend European Motorsports in Merriam KS!
