On my way to the dealership the car actually turned off while driving it, had to pull over and restart it to continue. Will keep you guys posted on what it comes out to be.
If you have have near 100K on the car check the codes. It could be the fuel pump starting to go. Mine started dying on me with a check engine light, I reset it and a few days later it came on again. Car died on me a few times before it went really bad.

Do you actually feel the car surging (like its engine braking) or do only see the revs oscillating?

What code was there when you checked?

Default Never thought of that...

The codes I got from the OBDII sensor were
"Bank 2 system too lean"
and
"Bank 1 system too rich"

When I looked them up they both seemed to reference a loose vacuum hose or a faulty MAF sensor. I should know by tonight what the problem is. There isn't any odd noises coming from the rear of the car where the fuel pump's are so that is why I didn't suspect that at all.

Default Yep,...

those are the standard vacuum hose codes, from prior C5 4.2 direct experience.

If you aren't familiar w/ it, notice contrary to perhaps some sense you get from the board, these kinds of codes don't point right at the bad part, but require the outside knowledge/experience set of what they tend to be associated with.

Anyway, I stand by my first suggestion given the rougher cold run and then the CEL, now w/ the confirming codes. Dig into all vacuum lines. Or yes, could possibly be MAF. If you or prior owner ever ran a K&N filter, really could be an MAF. Otherwise I would start w/ the $10 vacuum hose stuff instead of the multihundred $ MAF.

Default Hmm....

I know you don't have codes for it, but it's not O2 sensors is it? I think you have lots of good suggestions on here before going for high $$ stuff... difficult to diagnose from afar, but much pf it makes sense. Too bad you're not a little closer, you'd be welcome to use my VCDS.

The codes below are what happened when I needed to replace the Fuel Pump AND Oxygen Sensor in front of CAT. I also had codes for misfires. Run VCDS and you will be able to tell what might be going on.

Well guys found the culprit. Thank you all for your posts.
The main intake slipped off and was about 60% disconnected from the engine. Reason I didn't spot it/see it fully was because of all the other vacuum and hoses that are above the connection point. Once I removed the top part of the air box, the MAF sensor, and the vacuum tube, I was able to see it disconnected. Cleared the engine code and everything runs perfect now

Case closed!
