So now later on in the same day the Key fob is absolutely unresponsive. Replaced the batteries and still doesn't work. Searched around forever and tried to reprogram the key fob a million different ways including the method in my owners manual.
Even tried my second key fob "master key" after replacing its batteries and still no response from the car. Any ideas? please. |

And now when I lock the car physically with the key the hazard lights turn on a few seconds later. Starting to seem like an electrical problem of some kind more and more..

It took me a good 5 hours of going back and fourth from my computer to the parking garage but I have finally figured out the solution to this problem and would like to share the results to make it easier for anyone else that may end up having this problem in the future. So lets begin.
This all started after a pretty big rainstorm where my S4 sat under water pouring through a crack in the ceiling of the parking garage. I am unsure as to what actually leaked but it I have found that this can be caused by leaks in the sunroofs drains. The results of the water leak caused severe corrosion on my central locking module and caused it to begin shorting and failing. These failures ranged from the key fobs no longer locking or unlocking the car to the windows all rolling down upon trying to lock the car to the hazard lights turning on after physically locking the car. The Central Locking Pump/Module is located in the RR of the trunk underneath the little storage cup. Follow this link to an Audi World tech resource describing its location and removal/replacing: http://www.audiworld.com/tech/elec.html Now what I can provide is what the actual damage looked like and the solution. Once I was able to get eyes on the CLM I noticed that it was sitting in a pool of water maybe 1.5" deep. So I removed the module and the brown sponge material from the recessed area. I then siphoned out as much of the water as possible and proceeded to mop up the rest with a towel. I range the sponge out as much as possible and then threw it in the dryer for 15 minutes on low heat. ![]() ![]() So at this point I pulled the module out and took it inside to see what kind of damage could have been done to it. Brace yourselves, the damage is not pretty in the slightest. There was a huge amount of corrosion on the electronics up to about an inch above the edge, obviously where the waterline had reached at the highest point of flooding. I apologize that some of the photos are blurry, I was taking the pictures with my iPhone. ![]() ![]() In order to remove the corrosion I used 100% pure Acetone which can be purchased at Walmart for a few bucks and only costs a few dollars. I used q-tips and a toothbrush to remove the corrosion from the electronics and a can of pressurized air in order to remove the remaining water inside the box. Heres the best results that could be obtained by using the acetone. ![]() ![]() Once cleaned I put the module back together and then returned it to the car. After wiring everything up the car no longer turned on the hazards when locked but the key fobs still did not work. The next step of the solution came in the form of reprogramming the key fobs to re-recognize the CLM. I tried a million different methods to reprogram them but only found one that worked which is as follows: First clear the memory You must have two keys to do this. 1. Turn the ignition with one of the keys. 2. With the other key, lock the door manually and then press the unlock button 5 times, at 1 second intervals. 3. Wait 6 seconds and then press the unlock button again to accept the memory clearing. 4. The memory is now clear and ready to be programmed. Reprogramming the key fob 1. Turn the ignition with one of the keys. 2. With the other key, lock the door manually and within 5 seconds press the key once for the first memory location, or twice once per second for memory slot 2. 3. Wait another 5 seconds and press the unlock button 4. This should cause the door to unlock and your key will now be programmed. 5. You may repeat this step with another key and simply changing to the opposite of what you did in step three the first time. This concludes my solution to my own problem. I hope that this may one day help someone else from an immense headache like the one that I experienced today trying to figure this all out. -Reese |

I had this exact thing happen to me, was a leaky tail light. Had to replace unit, drying it didn't work... My car was locking and unlocking while driving and my interior lights would turn off and on. lol
