Default Passat 1.8t 4motion 2005 VS Audi A4 quattro 2005

passsat 4motion and audi a4 are the same car ib 2005 or not?

handling, weight and performance from A4 is behind passat?

I need best performance possible so I prefer look strait and low profile... I scary to look flashy in a Audi

both having the same frame in 2005?....what kind of difference beetween each one

thank you

Audi ended the A4 1.8 B6 in 2005 and created a 2005.5 A4 2.0 B7. In later years, I know the 4Motion only came with the V6 and not a 4 cylinder, but don't know about 2005. If the VW is a 6 cylinder, I'd compare apples to apples and look at the N/A A4 3.0. I do not know about weight and performance, but take a look at the reviews of the cars from customers on various websites and problems mentioned. Recently, I was looking at getting a 2006 or newer VW Passat 4Motion wagon but was scared away after reading story after story of electronic and mechanical breakdowns that VW refused to fix under warranty. I'm sure there are those in here who can give you some very negative stories about Audi dealers as well, but if you find a good one, they're very good.

Parts may be slightly more expensive on an A4, but my 3.0 has been very good to me. You'll probably get more gadgets and equipment and I personally greatly prefer the look and styling of the interiors. Quality of build may be about the same, but I believe the number of electronic problems are going to be much greater with the VW. Again, read the reviews. Your mileage may vary.

Good luck!

Awd systems are different. VW = haldex , Audi = torsen ( true 100% awd at all times)

Torsen:
-Audi A4 and bigger Audis
-VW Passat and bigger VWs

Haldex:
-Audi A3
-Golf R32, Golf R

Haldex fits in smaller chassis.

Agree with everything below regarding the torsen and haldex units. However, one thing to be careful (or maybe not...read on) of when using this info is to make sure you get the 2006 model Passat (B6 model; 2005 build in some cases) if you want the haldex. The 2005 and prior Passat (B5 model) I believe has an open center diff similar to what I had on my B2 Audi quattro which means permanent 25% to each wheel (no moving torque around) with the option to manually lock the fwd or fwd / center diffs. I found this to be a perfectly good driver on the snow as I lived in the mountains in California when I had the car and drove often on snowy / icy conditions. Anyway, you guys tell me if I am off on this one...

One more thing to add. The 2006 was the first year model of the B7 with the larger 2.0t engine for the Audi, so there is a similar model change on the Audi side, just with the engine.
