Well we checked the spark on start, used an led light when cranking the engine and found there was fuel start/stop so I assume (WE) that the fuel
pump is weak. Everything else checks out so when we get the fuel pump put we will let you know. THANKS TO ALL THE GREAT PEOPLE HERE!!!

Replaced the fuel pump, what a task without the correct tools.
Got new pump installed and STILL no start, checked spark, checked injectors with an led and it all works.... STILL NO START.. ![]() ANYTHING ELSE? |

Are you sure you that the fuel pump connection is correct? Crack open either the fuel filter or fuel rail to verify that fuel is being pumped. If everything check out then you will have to check compression. In order to make the engine run you need fuel, spark and compression.

Yes, cracked open the line at the filter, then at the rail and it pumps when the key is turned on. We checked the timing belt and it is turning. Since putting on a led for the injector it shows it blinking, and there is spark, is there something else (camshaft sensor etc) that tells the ecu to keep the fuel pump on when cranking? This is so frustrating.

The fuel pump will only run a couple of seconds while cranking the engine. It will only run continuously if the engine is running. This is Audi's safety feature to kill fuel pump in case of a front engine collosion and you can not turn off the ignition key. The ecu will send a signal to energize the fuel pump relay to run the fuel pump. Once the ecu determines that the engine has stopped it will stop sending the signal to the fuel pump relay. You can always use a jumper to jump pins 87 and 30 on the fuel pump relay to get the pump to run.
Even though the timing belt is turning it could be that it has skipped and the engine is out of time. Use a compression gauge to verify compression on each cylinder and post your results. The video show how to jump the fuel pump relay to get the pump to run http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RvMQl1G4cOw Last edited by audiqv8; 04-25-2012 at 04:22 AM. |
