And the larger sway bar shouldn't affect the ride. Did it on the rear bar on my 2001 A6 for about $250 total back then for the same one Audi used on the sport package. Everything I read was to leave the front bar alone and just do the rear. Made a big difference in handling but no change in ride.

All great info Tenspeed and Snagitseven, very helpful. I'm gonna call my Audi dealership tomorrow and see what they have to say. They have a mechanic I really like over there, very knowledgeable, very helpful guy. I'll post the outcome of that conversation here just as soon as I have the info.

Still trying to get a definitive answer on the difference between the sport and non sport sway bar thicknesses. Going to try AoA tomorrow to see if I can get an answer. If anyone has some concrete numbers it would be greatly appreciated.

Couldn't you ask your mechanic to measure the sway bars on sport and non-sport cars and also see if the two mount the same way? If they look different, you could have the parts dept check for part numbers and just order the sport version. I also recall I had to order the appropriate thicker bushings along with the sport version bar.
